The Orphanage

Support the poorest.

Madagascar is the fifth poorest country in the world, with large parts of the population practicing ancestor worship and one of the worst healthcare systems in the world. In Madagascar, the birth rate is 30.95% and the average age is 20.3. In comparison, the birth rate in Germany is 9.60% and the average age is 47.8. The healthcare system is simply overwhelmed. There are 0.18 professional doctors per 1,000 inhabitants, and many people cannot afford medical examinations or medication. Orphans are therefore not uncommon in Madagascar, and even if the parents are still alive, they cannot afford to send their children to school. In addition, there are radical, religion-driven traditions that prohibit the birth of twins, for example. Often, one twin is abandoned or killed.

By establishing an orphanage, we could support the most vulnerable members of society and prevent twin killings. Every child should have access to food, water, clothing, and education. For as little as $25 per month, a child can attend a private school, receive a school uniform, and be provided with a daily meal. Tahina, who has already taken in three children from poor backgrounds, would take over the management of the orphanage, which, according to the plans, will provide a home for 20 children. Our ultimate goal is to build orphanages all over the island, thereby shaping and improving the future of Madagascar in a sustainable way.

This project is closely linked to our “library” project. Even small financial donations help us greatly with the construction and care of the children. For a better impression of our orphanage project, please visit our picture gallery.
