Visit to the School
At the beginning of June 2026, Tahina and Patrick visited the school supported by Ny Kintana.
They received a warm welcome from the teachers and the headmistress.
During the visit, several classrooms were toured while lessons were in progress. The school canteen was also visited. The tables and benches currently in use there, were purchased one year ago thanks to the support of a donor.
A particular focus of the visit was the school's feeding programme. Ny Kintana finances two hot rice-based meals per week for approximately 130 schoolchildren. Depending on availability, these meals are supplemented with vegetables or meat. Unfortunately, as is the case almost everywhere, food prices continue to rise steadily. We therefore need to consider how this important programme can be secured in the long term. The headmistress assured us that these two meals per week provide significant health benefits for many children and make an important contribution to their development.
The water well, which was completed one year ago with the support of a Luxembourgish company or association, was also inspected. The water is of very good quality, and the supply is more than adequate. The system is based on a 30-metre-deep borehole. A solar-powered pump transfers the water to a tank with a capacity of 2,000 litres.
In this context as well, the headmistress emphasised the great importance of the project. Access to clean water makes a significant contribution to the health and hygiene of the children. Various plants, including vegetables and beans, have been cultivated around the school wall. Excess water from the pumping system is used to irrigate these crops.
In addition, several items of clothing brought from Europe were distributed to particularly needy children.
We at Ny Kintana are proud to be able to support this school. We are especially pleased that we can continue contributing to the financing of the school canteen and thereby facilitate access to education for children from the surrounding villages.
The teachers also expressed their sincere gratitude for the smartphones that were provided last year through a donation from a European company. These devices support the teachers in their daily work and make a valuable contribution to the further development of teaching.
